Saw Guide
Q. Can I use the Saw Guide to clean out the leaves and pine needles from between the deck boards?
A. Absolutely. The Saw Guide cuts through all kinds of dirt and debris. Just make sure your saw blade depth is set above the floor joists. The Saw Guide has guide fins that fit in between the deck boards, so it’s easy to slide the saw down the length following the gap like a slot car. The video demonstrates just how simple it is to clean up your deck.
Q. My deck boards are a little mismatched in several places where two boards butt together. Can I use the Saw Guide to smooth out the difference between those butt joints?
A. Yes. Start with the Saw Guide on the side of the joint that you want both boards to match, and lightly shave off the piece that needs to be trimmed off. You may need to make several passes with the Saw Guide depending on how much the deck boards are misaligned. You can watch a sample of that procedure in the video.
Q. Can your product be used with synthetic (composite plastic) products?
A. The Saw Guide works beautifully with all types of wood and composite plastics, and it will not hurt the integrity of any material.
Q. My deck has so many coats of paint the gaps between deck boards are completely filled in. How can I get the Saw Guide down in there to clean out the old paint?
A. There are a couple of ways to clean out a channel for the Saw Guide fins to ride down, depending on how thick and hard the layered paint is.
Q. What if all my deck boards are too close together?
A. If all your deck boards are too close together, your deck will build up debris in the space between the boards. When the deck boards are too close together, it doesn’t allow water to drain through or for air to circulate, so the deck boards stay wet causing rot that can lead to structural failure. A simple solution to the problem is to widen the gap between boards by cutting along the sides of the deck boards to allow water to drain.
